How this calculator works
There is no industry benchmark hidden in here. The estimate is built entirely from the numbers you enter — how many enquiries you get, how many you miss or answer late, what a job is worth to you, and how often an enquiry becomes a booking. We multiply those together and show the monthly and annual figure.
We are deliberately transparent about that, because a “revenue leak” calculator can easily bake in a flattering conversion assumption to produce a frightening number. Yours is only as good as your inputs, which is why it is worth spending a minute getting them roughly right rather than guessing high.
What counts as a missed enquiry
More than you would think, and this is where most estimates come in low:
- Calls that rang out while you were on a job, driving or with a customer
- Calls answered but cut short because you could not talk properly
- Web forms and emails answered the next working day
- WhatsApp and social messages left on read during the afternoon
- Voicemails returned after the caller has already booked someone else
If you only count the calls your phone logged as missed, you will understate it. A late reply and a missed call usually have the same outcome — the customer went elsewhere — but only one of them shows up anywhere you can see.
Sanity-checking the number
If the annual figure looks implausibly large, the input that is usually wrong is the conversion rate. Use the rate at which enquiries you do answer turn into paid work, not the rate you would like. If you win roughly half the jobs you quote, use half.
It is also worth remembering the figure is opportunity, not guaranteed revenue. Some of those missed callers were price-shopping, out of area, or never going to book. The honest read is that it is the ceiling on what better response times could recover — a target to aim at, not a debt someone owes you.

Why does the annual figure look so big?
Because a small weekly leak compounds. Two missed jobs a week at a few hundred pounds each is a five-figure annual number, which is exactly why it is worth measuring rather than estimating in your head.
What if I do not know my conversion rate?
Use a conservative guess and note it as an assumption. It is more useful to have a rough number you understand than a precise one you do not trust.
