AI automation for electricians
There are moments in an electrician's day when answering the phone is not inconvenient, it is unsafe. That single fact quietly costs the average sparks more work per year than any marketing spend would win back.
What the day actually looks like
Unlike most trades, an electrician frequently cannot stop. You are working live, in a consumer unit, up a ladder, or halfway through a test sequence you do not want to restart. The phone is in your pocket and answering it is genuinely the wrong call. So the enquiry goes unanswered — and enquiries for electrical work are unusually urgent, because people ring an electrician when something has stopped working or an inspection deadline is looming.
The work also splits into two very different revenue streams that need opposite handling. Reactive domestic call-outs are small, fast and won on speed. Commercial and landlord work — EICRs, rewires, EV chargers, periodic inspections — is high-value, slow, and won on follow-up and paperwork. Most electricians are set up to handle neither well from the top of a ladder, and the two get treated identically.
Then there is certification. EICRs expire. Landlord safety certificates run on a fixed cycle. Every one of those is a customer who needs the work done again on a known date, and who will simply use whoever contacts them first. It is the most predictable repeat revenue in the trade and it is almost universally left to memory.
Where the money leaks
The enquiry you could not safely take
Working live or mid-test, the phone is not an option. Without an answering layer that call is simply gone, and the caller does not ring back.
The EICR that expired at a competitor
Five-year certificates and annual landlord checks are diarised revenue that nobody diarises. A reminder sequence turns a one-off job into a recurring one, permanently.
The rewire quote sitting in someone's inbox
Four-figure quotes rarely get a yes on the first read. They get compared, sat on, and awarded to whoever stayed in the conversation.
The landlord with eleven properties you only did one of
Portfolio landlords are the best customer in this trade and almost never get asked about the rest of their properties. That question can be automatic.
What it is costing, roughly
Here is the arithmetic, using figures for electricians as a starting point. Take 7 missed or late enquiries a week — the calls that come in while you are working, the messages answered too late, the quotes that went quiet. At an average value of £260 and a 40% close rate, that is roughly £3,152 a month, or about £37,824 a year, going to whoever answered first.
These are the starting numbers we load the calculator with for a domestic and light-commercial electrical business, blending small call-outs with the occasional EICR or consumer unit change. They are a starting point, not a claim about your business — put your own figures in.
Run it with your own numbers in the calculator → (it opens pre-filled with the figures above, and nothing is stored unless you ask us to email you the result).
What we would build first
We do not install everything at once. For electricians the order below is usually the one that pays back fastest, and most businesses start with the first item alone.
A phone answered even when your hands cannot be
Captures the job type, property type, postcode and urgency while you finish safely, then books it or hands it to you with the context already attached.
Service: AI Receptionist
Certificate reminders that run for five years
The moment an EICR is issued, the next one is scheduled. At the right interval the customer hears from you first, and the renewal is yours by default.
Service: Lead Nurture Sequences
Site visits booked without the back-and-forth
Quoting jobs need a survey slot. Letting the customer pick from your real availability removes three messages and a day of delay from every single one.
Service: Appointment Booking Automation
An instant reply while you are still up the ladder
Costs very little, runs on the number you already use, and stops the caller moving down their list before you have climbed down.
Service: Missed-Call Text-Back
The time it gives back
Revenue is only half of it. These are the jobs that quietly eat the evenings and the gaps between jobs, and what changes when they run themselves.
| Task | Today | Automated |
|---|---|---|
| Taking enquiries mid-job | Unsafe, so missed | Answered and qualified without you |
| EICR / certificate renewals | Relies on memory, mostly lost | Automatic, on the expiry date |
| Booking survey visits | Three messages and a day lost | Customer self-books your real slots |
| Following up four-figure quotes | Uncomfortable, often skipped | Scheduled, polite, automatic |
When it is not the right answer
We would rather talk you out of the wrong automation than sell it to you.
- It will not quote a rewire. Anything needing a survey gets captured and booked as a survey, never priced blind.
- Commercial and contract work with a procurement process is not won by speed of answer — this helps the domestic and landlord side far more.
- It will not fix a demand problem. If the phone is not ringing at all, automation has nothing to work with — that is a marketing job first.
- It is only as good as the information you give it. Vague pricing and unclear service areas in, vague answers out.
FAQs
Can it handle EICR and landlord certificate enquiries properly?
It captures what matters — property type, number of bedrooms or circuits, whether it is a rental, and the deadline they are working to — so your callback is a five-minute conversation rather than a twenty-minute one.
Will it try to price work over the phone?
Only within ranges you set, and only for the jobs you are happy to price that way. Everything else is booked as a survey. We would rather it say ‘that needs eyes on it’ than invent a number you have to walk back.
How does the certificate reminder know when to fire?
From the issue date and the interval you set for that certificate type. It sits in your system from the day the job is completed, and it does not forget.
Does this replace my office admin?
It replaces the parts they hate — chasing, rebooking, reminding — and gives them back the customer conversations that actually need judgement.
